For over three decades, Dr. Bobby Jones (aka “Mr. Gospel”) has helped to revolutionize gospel music. Born of humble beginnings in Henry County, TN, Jones always dreamed of a career in music. He excelled academically, graduating from TSU and earning a doctorate from Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Jones started in television at WSM-TV in Nashville in 1976. He soon became credited with taking gospel music to the mainstream airwaves. Best known as host and executive producer of BET’s longest running show, Bobby Jones Gospel, for over 35 years, Jones’ stage has showcased the best of the best in Gospel and helped to launch many careers. His generosity and love for higher learning caused him to donate a tape library worth over one million dollars to his alma-mater, TSU.
When not writing, producing and hosting television shows Jones can be heard on the Bobby Jones Gospel Radio Show and the Bobby Jones Gospel Countdown. He and his choirs have recorded over 15 albums over the years and have received many GRAMMY®, Stellar, Dove and Soul Train awards nominations and wins. Other notable achievements include The Gabriel Award winner, GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee, a Music City Walk of Fame star and his title as Dominica’s Ambassador at Large. Dr. Jones has worked relentlessly to bring his love for Gospel music to the world. He has invested his life in spotlighting others with no sign of slowing down.
